How to Hire a Python Developer in Pakistan

Pakistan has one of the deepest pools of self-taught, English-speaking Python developers in Asia. Rates are lower than the US or Australia and the overlap with EU business hours is generous. It's a strong hiring market — if you screen well.

    Where to Look

  1. **Direct referrals** — the top 10% of Pakistani devs are rarely on Fiverr.
  2. **Upwork** — good, but filter for Top Rated Plus with 1000+ hours.
  3. **Fiverr Pro** — the Pro tier only; the general marketplace is a lottery.
  4. **LinkedIn** — active senior engineers are here, especially Islamabad and Lahore.
  5. **GitHub** — search for contributors to CCXT, FastAPI, or Django plugins in PK.

  6. Screening

For a mid-to-senior Python role, run three stages:

  7. **Portfolio review** — real repos with tests and README, not tutorials.
  8. **Live pair session (60 min)** — a small task in their IDE. Watch how they debug.
  9. **Paid trial task (4–8 hrs)** — real ticket, real code review.

  10. Skip whiteboard leetcode. It filters out the exact senior engineers you want to hire.

    Fair Rates in 2026

  11. **Junior (1–3 yrs):** $12–20 / hr
  12. **Mid (3–6 yrs):** $20–35 / hr
  13. **Senior (6+ yrs):** $35–60 / hr
  14. **Specialist (trading bots, quant, ML):** $50–90 / hr

  15. Below $10/hr you're competing with hobbyists. Above $90/hr you should compare directly with EU freelancers.

    Red Flags

  16. Portfolios full of screenshots but no code.
  17. Refuses a paid trial task.
  18. Answers arrive on a suspiciously predictable schedule (agency reselling).
  19. Uses "we" instead of "I" in a solo profile.
  20. Won't do a video call.

  21. Green Flags

  22. Owns a public repo you can `git clone` and run.
  23. Answers technical questions with trade-offs, not certainty.
  24. Asks about your deployment, tests, and on-call before rates.
  25. Has references you can actually contact.

  26. Contracts and Payments

  27. Wise or Payoneer for payments — both clear PKR reliably.
  28. Simple MSA + SOW per project, not "hourly forever".
  29. NDA before sharing production credentials, not after.

  30. Working Hours

Islamabad is UTC+5. That gives you 4+ hours overlap with London, 2+ hours overlap with US East Coast morning, and full overlap with Sydney until early afternoon. Set core hours in the contract so timezone drift doesn't creep in.

    Wrap-Up

Hire senior, pay fairly, screen with real work. The team you build in Pakistan will ship as fast and as well as any team you could build anywhere else.
